Are Phones by Google Good enough?
Pixel and Pixel XL are Android smartphones designed, developed and marketed by Google. They were announced during a press event on October 4, 2016, and serve as the first smartphones in the Google Pixel hardware line, succeeding the Nexus line of smartphones. The smartphones were succeeded by the Pixel 2 in 2017, the Pixel 3 in 2018 and by the Pixel 4 in 2019.
The Pixels have an aluminium chassis, with a glass panel on the rear, a USB-C connector, 3.5 mm headphone jack, and a 12.3 megapixel rear-facing camera. At launch, the devices featured certain exclusive software features, including the 7.1 “Nougat” update to the Android operating system, integration with the Google Assistant intelligent personal assistant, live technical support services, and unlimited full-resolution Google Photos backup for the life of the device.
The Pixels received mixed reviews. They were called “the best Android phones you can buy” and received praise for camera quality and performance. However, they were criticised for their high prices and lack of waterproofing, and some critics noted design similarities to Apple’s iPhone.
When it came out, the Google Pixel 3 had the best smartphone camera on the market, and it comes in a one-hand-friendly size with a screen big enough to satisfy most folks.
Yes, there’s a successor now, in the Google Pixel 4, which has an extra 16MP telephoto camera as well as the 12.2MP main sensor of the Pixel 3. But even without this newer lens (and all the other Pixel 4 features), the Pixel 3 is still a photography champion.
You don’t need a huge, pocket-busting phone to get fantastic photos (the Pixel 3 has a 5.5-inch screen), nor do you need a dual-lens rear camera (it just has a single lens on back), nor the fastest aperture on a phone (f/1.8 has been beaten by the LG and Samsung’s speedier f/1.5 aperture). Google proves that its 12.2MP photos are superior thanks to machine-learning camera software and photo consistency.
To this day, the Google Pixel 2 camera still amazes us, and the Pixel 3 builds off of that success with better photo detail and improved HDR. What’s more, the color-rich OLED screen is far superior due to its 18:9 aspect ratio. It’s not bezel-less by any means, but you do get more screen real estate than on the Pixel 2 – and keep the front-facing stereo speakers.
Pixel 4a to be lunched with it’s Outstanding Features
Google surprised everyone in 2019 by releasing the Pixel 3a and 3a XL, affordable versions of the Pixel 3 and 3 XL that brought some of the hardware and software of the premium devices, but offered them at a more appealing price tag. We’d expect the same to be the case in 2020, with anticipated Pixel 4a and 4a XL presenting some of the features of the recent Pixel 4 and 4 XL in a more affordable body.
Rumors said that pixel 4a will be more suitable than pixel 4 and 4xl with new 7series chip and punch hole display.Google Pixel 4a is expected to launch in 2020, and in the run up to its launch, the alleged renders of the phone have popped up online. The render leak suggests that the phone will sport a hole-punch display design, taking from the current trend in the industry. At the back, Google seems to have integrated the same square module camera setup as the Google Pixel 4.. In the renders, the phone is seen sporting a single image sensor inside the module, but tipster OnLeaks suggests that Google could add more image sensors.
Multiple renders of an upcoming White colour option of the phone have been leaked, but the report says that the phone will launch in Black and Purple finishes as well. There may an additional colour option added to the mix. The phone, as mentioned, is seen sporting a hole-punch display with the cut-out positioned in the top left of the screen. There’s a thin outline of bezels on all sides of the display, and the report suggests that the phone could feature a flat 5.7-inch or 5.8-inch display.
The White colour back panel has a matte finish, and a square-shaped module to house the camera. There’s a visible camera bump and the renders suggest only a single camera setup.Though the tipster suggest more image sensors should be added. The Pixel 4a is seen to feature a rear fingerprint sensor, and the ‘G’ logo is housed at the bottom of the back panel. The orange-coloured power button and the volume rocker are situated on the right edge of the screen. The bottom edge houses the USB Type-C port and the speaker grille. The 3.5mm audio jack is seen on the top edge, and the phone is reported to measure 144.2×69.5×8.2mm in size, and if we include the camera bump, the thickness increases to 9mm. There’s no clarity whether Motion Sense will be integrated on the Pixel 4a series, or not.
Google Pixel 4a series is reported to be launched at Google I/O 2020 this year. Tipped specifications include 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 or Snapdragon 765 series SoC, and 12.2-megapixel main rear camera. The phone could also come with 5G support.
